Keeping company while wintering

I’m writing this post a few days after we’ve celebrated the start of 2023.

At this point, most of us have enjoyed the festive season with more rich food and drink that we care to mention. Late nights became the norm, and sleeping in, was expected.

But now we’ve taken down the holiday tree and carefully wrap the Christmas decorations in tissue paper before storing them in plastic bins. If it wasn’t for the fudge and pumpkin muffins in the freezer, it would feel like the holidays simply vanished.

In Michigan, where Beth lives it also means that suddenly the crisp cold of November/December gives way to the perpetually gray, damp days of January and beyond (waaaayyy beyond. . . like March/April) Add the snow and ice, the inch-thick icicles, the thicker winter coats and the snow tires and you know with certainty that winter has come to the Midwest.

So what’s a girl to do?

According to Beth, getting through the “dark season” takes planning. Make certain your pantry is stocked and your freezer is full, ready to make the next pot of chili or cheesy oven-baked casserole.

As far as keeping the boredom at bay, Beth has all types of things she likes to do (she’s a crafter) but she also loves TV/streaming services (such as Netflix, Hulu, HBOMax)

I asked her what she likes to watch, and she came up with an impressive list.

So here it is. We hope something will pique your curiosity and you’ll find new favorites as you face wintering, 2023.

NOTE: The first 5 links on this list are all fairly old series. She mentioned them because she thinks they’re great and that winter is a great time to binge watch the episodes. The new seasons will probably come by spring.

HGTV – (almost anything, but she’s not loving Property Brothers or Love it or List it.)

Discovery Channel – with a shout-out to the Magnolia Channel

NCIS-New Orleans – (she’s watching repeat episodes)

And then we have to mention her soap operas:

Young and the Restless (she’s been watching all of her life)

Bold and the Beautiful (another one she’s had a lifetime of watching but had grown tired of the series. That is until COVID lockdown when she became hooked again.)

There you have it. Beth is always looking for something new to watch and enjoy. If you have a program, you think she’d like, share it in the comments.
